About Us

For over 35 years, Citizens Committee for New York City has supported volunteer-led neighborhood groups carry out community improvement projects in the most underserved neighborhoods across all five boroughs.

We are the only organization in New York City to offer funding to grassroots groups—groups such as block associations, tenant associations, gardening groups, and groups that do not have a 501(c)(3) status— working on quality-of-life issues.

We support residents to work on specific projects that help to bring neighbors together, and on the issues that they identify as important to their communities.

From the Northeast Bronx to Staten Island's North Shore, these groups are working on issues as varied as beautification, food justice, the environment, youth education, physical fitness, urban agriculture, public safety and more.

Citizens Committee for New York City offers grant awards, skills-building workshops and project-planning assistance. Last year, we distributed over half a million dollars and supported more than 250 resident-led efforts in all five boroughs.
